Congress Awards 2026

During the second day of proceedings at the 2026 Eastern Cape Provincial Congress in Nelson Mandela Bay, the Democratic Alliance recognised outstanding structures, public representatives, staff members, and activists whose commitment continues to strengthen the party across the province.

Best Performing Awards were presented to PE Northern Areas Constituency as Best Performing Constituency, DASO West as Best Performing Ancillary Constituency, and Kouga Ward 9 as Best Performing Branch, acknowledging exceptional organisational growth, community engagement, and on-the-ground delivery.

The Lifetime Contribution to Democracy Awards honoured Terence Fritz, Bobby Stevenson, Donald Lee, the late Bredine Share, and Gloria Loggenberg for their longstanding dedication to democratic values and public service in the Eastern Cape. Bredine Share, who served as the Democratic Alliance Eastern Cape’s Provincial Finance Manager, was remembered for her unwavering commitment, professionalism, and the vital role she played in strengthening the organisation’s financial governance and stability. Her recognition stood as a tribute to her lasting contribution to the party and its growth.

Star Performer Awards recognised excellence across multiple categories. Staff members Bonga Xhangayi and Busi Mki were acknowledged for their vital organisational support. Councillors honoured included Cary Clark, Geoff Walton, John Shaw, Nomtshato Jonas, Mbongeni Kotana, Lenny Moodley, Lemarc Stewart, Noziphiwo Mantshongo, and Eldridge Ruiters for distinguished service to their communities.

Among public representatives, Baxolile Nodada MP, Yusuf Cassim MPL, Dr Vicky Knoetze MPL, and Leander Kruger MPL received recognition for their legislative leadership and contribution to advancing accountable governance.

The Activist Award was presented to John Whitfield, recognising sustained grassroots activism and commitment to growing the Democratic Alliance across communities.

The awards formed an important part of Congress proceedings, celebrating those whose daily work advances responsive, people-centred government and strengthens the DA’s footprint throughout the Eastern Cape.
